GamePlay Space is looking for a Communications & Marketing Manager to join its small (and amazing) team. This person will develop the overall marketing strategy for GamePlay Space in order to grow brand awareness and retain and attract new members. They will review our current service offerings and pricing and analytics to provide recommendations to improve our business strategy. Working closely with the Program Manager and Community Manager, this person will develop the communications calendar for our events and programs. They will also develop various communications strategies including press outreach, partnerships, and advertisements. As we are a small team, we are looking for an individual with a positive attitude who is excited about cross-departmental collaboration. 

GamePlay Space is a world class, entrepreneur-focused, community-based not-for-profit workspace dedicated to the success of video game startups and indies. We offer services to the game development community through virtual, in-person and hybrid events, and have a large and stimulating co-working space in Downtown Montreal. 

Tasks may require unusual working hours, but we work a flexible schedule (not 9 am to 5 pm). Responsibilities

  • Develop an overall marketing strategy to create brand awareness and sell GamePlay Space services (including desk rentals and memberships).
  • Set concrete goals per the chosen marketing strategies to grow our current audience and target new ones.
  • Develop the marketing strategy for regular programming, annual events, and other projects; assist with the implementation of these strategies as needed.
  • Create a social media content calendar that defines the messaging and visuals that need to go out; assist with the roll-out on social media as needed. 
  • Create and execute various marketing strategies to promote GamePlay Space events and services, which may include: press & media kits, personalised outreach strategies, email marketing campaigns, partnership opportunities, and paid social media campaigns.
  • Update and maintain contact lists (press, community, etc). 
  • Undertake competitive market analysis and analyze key data to provide recommendations for improving our membership structure and pricing.
  • Maintain and update websites (GamePlay Space, Disco:MTL, DemoNights, others).
  • Perform other duties in support of the operations of the space as needed.

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Salary: $45 to $55k – based on experience PLUS...
  • 4-day work week (that’s 52 extra days off a year!)
  • 5 weeks vacation (plus 1 week during the winter holidays)

Required profile

  • French/English bilingual—written and spoken.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with marketing and communications.
  • Ability to have a global vision, autonomy and proactive mindset.
  • Attention to detail and diligence, with a capacity to prioritize.
  • Must live in Montreal and be able to come into the office.

Required Skills

  • Previous experience with creating marketing strategies. 
  • Previous experience with competitive analysis is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of online analytics and digital marketing tactics.
  • Proficiency with updating websites, or willingness to learn.
  • Capacity to define the messaging that fits the set objectives and needs of each event and program.
  • Capacity to create visual content is a plus.
  • Curiosity about the video game development industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
